The plant, ground breaking ceremony of which was performed by the Chief Minister today, will produce construction-grade steel rebar under the company’s flagship retail brand ‘Tata Tiscon’ and this investment aligns with Tata Steel’s commitment to a circular economy and transitioning to low-carbon steel making through the Steel Recycling Route.  The plant having a capacity of 0.75 MTPA with a 100% scrap-based electric arc furnace is set up over 115 acres of land at Kadiana Khurd, Hi-Tech Valley. The project is likely to create direct and indirect employment opportunities for around 500 direct and 2000 indirect individuals, respectively, through its operations.

He also thanked the Panchs and Sarpanchs of the nearby villages for extending fulsome support to them for executing the project. Chaudhary said that now they are also part of the Punjab adding that they will open a skill centre to impart quality technical training to the youth.

In his address Chairman M&S (Long Products) Tata Steel Ashish Anupam said that this plant will produce 7500 ton steel without polluting the environment. He said that in this unique plant, the steel will be made by recycling the scrap. Anupam said that this plant will promote green power as coal will not be used for production.
