Dr. Manmohan Singh (1932–2024) will always be remembered as a visionary leader
who transformed India’s economy and served with humility and intellect. An economist of
global acclaim, he played a pivotal role in initiating economic liberalization as Finance
Minister under P.V. Narasimha Rao. As Prime Minister (2004–2014), he steered India
through global challenges, forged historic international partnerships, and championed reforms
blending economic growth with social welfare.
Dr. Ajit S. Puri, MBBS, MD (Medicine), FICP, FCAI, FICA, DSc. (Honoris Causa), a
Punjab Ratan awardee and medical specialist with over 35 years of experience, recalls
presenting his book SARS and How to Prevent Common Serious Diseases to the then Prime
Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, in New Delhi on June 21, 2004. Journalist Dr.
Jaswant Singh Puri was also present on the occasion. Dr. Ajit S. Puri, a former Visiting
Member of the Faculty at Newcastle General Hospital, UK, and author of works such as How
to Prevent Common Diseases and Bird Flu (Sterling Publishers), highlighted the mutual
