Bangladesh: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck Bangladesh on Friday morning, prompting tremors that were felt across various regions of West Bengal. The seismic activity occurred between 10:08 and 10:10 am, lasting only a few seconds, yet it was significant enough to be noticed in Kolkata, Malda, Nadia, Cooch Behar, and numerous other districts. Reports indicate that the tremors extended to areas such as Dakshin and Uttar Dinajpur, and even reached parts of Northeast India, as confirmed by the US Geological Survey (USGS). The epicenter of the quake was identified in Ghorasal, located in Dhaka, with a depth of 10 kilometers. This incident marks the third earthquake event of the day, following two moderate quakes that affected Pakistan and Afghanistan earlier in the morning, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS). A resident from Salt Lake Sector 3 reported that furniture, including fans and sofas, shook for approximately seven to eight seconds, although there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries. In the aftermath of the earthquake, social media was flooded with images of people congregating outside their homes, schools, and businesses, highlighting the community’s response to the unexpected tremor.
