Acquittal in 1984 Riot Case reopens wounds — DSGMC to Challenge Verdict in High Court

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee President S. Harmeet Singh Kalka today expressed profound anguish over the acquittal of Sajjan Kumar in the Vikaspuri–Janakpuri violence case related to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, as pronounced by the Rouse Avenue Court. New Delhi today.He described the verdict as a deeply painful moment—not only for the victim families who have endured decades of suffering while awaiting justice, but for the entire Sikh community.
S. Kalka stated that the decision has once again reopened the unhealed wounds of 1984 and has shaken the faith of victims in the justice delivery system. “For families who lost their loved ones and have spent over four decades pursuing truth and accountability, this verdict is devastating,” he said.
He categorically affirmed that the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee will challenge this judgment before the Hon’ble High Court and will pursue the matter with the utmost seriousness, legal diligence, and determination.
Reiterating DSGMC’s unwavering commitment, S. Harmeet Singh Kalka said that the DSGMC stands firmly and resolutely with the victim families. “Our legal battle will continue until absolute justice is delivered. This is not merely a fight against a verdict, but a collective struggle for truth, accountability, and the dignity of the victims,” he emphasized.
He further added that justice delayed cannot be allowed to become justice denied, and the Sikh community will continue to seek lawful and constitutional remedies to ensure that those responsible for the heinous crimes of 1984 are held fully accountable.
