The Oscars will now include a new category called the Academy Award for Achievement in Casting, which will recognize outstanding casting in films. This category will be introduced in the 98th edition of the Oscars, specifically honoring films released in 2025. The first award for this category will be presented in 2026.
In a joint statement, Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang expressed their pride in recognizing and celebrating the role of casting directors in filmmaking as the Academy continues to evolve.
“We congratulate our casting directors branch members on this exciting milestone and for their commitment and diligence throughout this process.”
